Classical Music Connecting Switzerland and Korea: Inmo Yang at KKL Lucerne with Festival Strings Lucerne

On February 26th, the KKL Lucerne filled with the sound of Paganini, played by a violinist who grew up in Seoul and now performs on the world’s most storied stages. Festival Strings Lucerne invited us to a live performance by South Korean violinist Inmo Yang at one of Switzerland’s finest concert halls.
For us, it was exactly the kind of evening we are excited to share with our community.

Inmo Yang: From Seoul to the International Stage
Inmo Yang gave his first public performance at 11. By 2022, he had won the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition, one of the most prestigious violin competitions in the world.
Since then, he has performed internationally, including appearances with Festival Strings Lucerne, one of Switzerland’s most respected chamber orchestras.
His playing is often described as deeply emotional without ever sacrificing technical precision. Experiencing that live in the KKL’s exceptional acoustic environment is something recordings simply cannot replicate.

The Programme: Mendelssohn’s Dream vs. Paganini’s Fire
The concert began with Festival Strings Lucerne’s interpretation of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s tribute to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a famous play by William Shakespeare. The orchestra used the KKL’s famous acoustics to create a clear, atmospheric sound that set a solid tone for the rest of the night.
The atmosphere shifted with Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 2, “La Campanella.” Known for its technical demands, the piece requires exceptional precision and control. Inmo Yang delivered a confident and focused performance that earned a well-deserved standing ovation.

Creating Moments for Our Community
During the intermission, we had the opportunity to introduce our giveaway winners — Junghwan Cho and his family — to Inmo Yang in person.
Watching them connect with an artist from their home country, in the middle of one of the finest concert halls in Europe, is the kind of moment that reminds us of our mission: connecting people, cultures and ideas.
We are grateful to Festival Strings Lucerne for the invitation, for sponsoring complimentary tickets for our community, and for offering a member discount that made the evening accessible to more people. Partnerships like this, built on genuine cultural exchange, are what allow Friends of Korea to do what we do.
A Strong Conclusion
The second half of the program featured Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5, “Reformation.” The symphony moves from a quiet opening to a very powerful finish, providing a solid close to the evening.
